Kate joined Chambers in 2017 having successfully run her own legal practice for a number of years. She will head our specialist Inquest Team.
Born in Birmingham, Kate was called to the bar in 1994 and after a few initial years of practise in London she returned to the city of her birth to establish a solid criminal defence practice.
Kate specialised in complex fraud, confiscation and forfeiture of assets, serious violence and disorder, murder and substantial drug conspiracies. The majority of her practice however consisted of the defence of serious sexual offences particularly against children.
Following her appointment in 2013 as an Assistant Coroner, Kate’s practice gravitated towards inquest work, and as an assistant she regularly presides over Article 2 ECHR and HSE Jury Inquests as well as complex medical deaths.
Her legal experience expanded further when in 2015 she was appointed a Deputy District Judge in the County Court where she now regularly sits presiding over all aspects of the Court’s Jurisdiction including Bankruptcy, Contract, Personal Injury, Consumer Credit and Family Finance.
Kate is pleased to accept instructions on a direct access basis and is additionally authorised to conduct litigation.
Kate is has been authorised to accept direct access instructions and to litigate (without the need for a solicitor) for several years.
